WHEN CAN I VISIT CAPON?
We actually open on Thursday, May 1st. Come feast on the traditional steak dinner cookout at Sunset Lodge. We stay open for the weekend, but close down temporarily Sunday, May 4. When we open again on May 9th, you can come see us anytime up to early November. In general, weekday space during May, June, September and October is available even up to the last minute. Call us anytime, as cancellations do occur even during peak times. See Current Openings and Specials page for specific reservation opportunities.

WHAT SPECIALS DO YOU HAVE?
Rates: Off-Season Rates include Sunday through Wednesday night discounts. “Four Night Specials” are offered beginning on Memorial Day, Labor Day and again in late October. See Rates page for details.

Programs: Not one but two new programs will join the traditional Watercolor, Bridge and Wellness sessions. Come for the workshop in Rug Making (offered in the Spring and Fall) or the Tai Chi program (offered Fall only). Details located on Seasonal Programs page.

Exclusive Use: We still have several opportunities for weekday exclusive use of Capon both in May and October. If only a weekend slot will do, gather at least 125 people and you can have Friday and Saturday nights, May 30-June 1 or Saturday night, September 13th. (Even if you group is not up to the exclusive use size, please check with us about making arrangements for your gathering one of those weekends).

NEW June 1st Open House: After all the fun we had with last May with our Sunday 75th anniversary celebration, we decided to set aside another Sunday this year just for enjoying Capon for the day. Come up by yourself or bring your family and friends. This is a great opportunity to introduce someone new to Capon. All guest buildings will be open for touring and the recreational facilities will be available for enjoying. Golfers and spa-goers can enjoy these services at regular rates. A Wednesday-style lunch will be provided in the dining room! Mark your calendars and plan to be with us for this wonderful way to start the month of June. We ask that you make reservations in advance for lunch, golf and spa services by contacting us by phone or email.

Day Trips: Spend a beautiful Spring or Fall day up on Capon’s golf course! Enjoy 18 holes of golf with cart and lunch on most weekdays in May, June, September or October for $45 per person! (Even weekend space is sometimes available!) Feel like taking a day just to pamper yourself? Why not come and try a spa treatment? Costs vary depending on the service. Check with us about availability by calling the Main Office at (304) 874-3695 or during the season at the Spa (304) 874-3004.

WE KNOW IN THEORY NOTHING CHANGES AT CAPON... smile BUT WHAT FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS CAN WE LOOK FOR THIS YEAR?
LODGING: This winter saw the completion of the phased-in bathroom and heater renovations in the Fairfax. Now all the rooms have tubs and baseboard heaters. Plus, half the building is receiving new bedding, furniture and draperies. Next year, the remainder of the rooms will receive the same improvements.

MEETING HOUSE: The area behind the stage and the stage itself were completely gutted. Excavation was done behind the Meeting House to allow for an addition to be built. This provided the necessary space to construct a large conference room with a modern multi-media system, kitchenette and handicapped accessible bathrooms. Along with the new stage, the auditorium will also receive a new multi-media system. See Groups page for more details.

RECREATION: As a result of the Meeting House project’s excavation work near the badminton area, the courts will be re-built. New all-weather surfaces will take the place of the old ones. Look for summer tournaments to usher in the new era of “shuttlecock shenanigans”.

Golfers and Fish Pond “enthusiasts” will have new places to rest while enjoying their favorite activity. The Deaton family and friends generously donated the funds to construct a hexagonal shelter reminiscent of the original “half way house” by the 6th tee. Look for the familiar drink cooler to move into this covered location. Meanwhile, the Howe family children, in honor of their parents, decided on a similar shaped structure. Look for this cozy gazebo at the Main fishpond across from the dock. These additions both celebrate Capon family memories and provide a quiet respite from a day’s exertion.

WHO IS COMING TO CAPON THIS YEAR?
Besides the usual cast of Capon characters who make their regular treks in Spring, Summer and Fall, Capon will be hosting some new groups. Women’s organizations such as church retreats, bridge and golf outings are traveling from Loudon County, VA, and Annapolis and Baltimore, MD. A pastoral retreat based in Harrisonburg, VA will visit in October. Many groups are coming back in 2008 after first time visits in 2007. Among those are a breast cancer survivor group from the Shenandoah Valley, VA and a senior center from Prince George’s County, MD.

***Consider introducing new groups or individuals to Capon by coming over for the day. Call ahead to set up a tour of the grounds and facilities and if it’s during our season, enjoy a sample of Capon’s delicious food!
