2012: 80th Anniversary Season:
As we reflect on the eight decades of our shared heritage, we would like to be reminded of your first Capon connection stories. Tell us again just how, when and through whom you made your first trip here. For those who started coming in the first 40 years, we especially would love to hear about any memories you have of our grandparents, Lou & Virginia Austin. You can share directly by sending us an email or do it the old fashion way through a hand written note. Some are already swapping Capon experiences by joining the Capon Springs Fun Page on Facebook.
In 2012, on the 8th of every month, we will update the following 80th anniversary items:
1) $80 rate nights: Thursday, May 3 and Saturday, May 12
Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights, June 3, 4 & 5
(More to be added!)
2) Fun factoids:
December: In 1923, Lou Austin paid $50,000 for the 50-year distrubution rights of Capon Water in Philadelphia.
January: In 1934, the golf course construction started.
3) Surveys:
December: Favorite Capon meal? Saturday lunch edged out Monday Chicken and Thursday Steak. Full Results
January: Rank your favorite Capon spots. Current Survey
4) Stories: Share your earliest Capon memories and (with your permission) we will post some here! Here is a sample of the stories we received:
My Capon memories go back to the year 1940 when my parents brought me to Capon when I was just two years old!!! I even have pictures of me in the "baby pool".
Joan Milbourne Heinicke
With the exception of 2010, I have not missed a year of coming that same week in August (and other times of the year too!), and in that time I have made some of the most remarkable, long-standing, and cherished friendships of my life. The memories I have of “growing up” at Capon are part of my fabric. Ann Valente Saunders
When we arrived for the very first time, we had an unusual event as we entered the dining room. All the guests were seated at a very long table, and when they saw my husband, they all started shouting "Take it off". He couldn’t imagine what was going on. Finally, though, the guests explained. They wanted him to take off his tie! Elizabeth Schmidt
One of my fondest early memories of Capon (early 1970s) was swimming in the pool before breakfast. Lou Austin would come by swim a couple of laps and then off to work he would go. Mark Davis
5) Hidden Anniversary token location: Clues coming!
And don't forget to join us for our opening weekend gala, May 3-6, when we start the season off with special rates, programs and celebrations. Stay Thursday night for $80 per person and then enjoy the weekend package rate of $259 per person that includes taxes and gratuities from Friday dinner through Sunday 12:30pm meal. (Kids under age 13 staying in the room with 2 adults are free all weekend! Rooms without bath $199 per person.)
WORD OF MOUTH TRADITION continues....
Since our guests come by way of introduction, we are always looking for the best ways to help you spread the word. The slower pace of weeknights in the spring and fall are especially good times when new guests can try Capon.
During our off-season, if you would like Jonathan to come share the Capon Road Show in your community, contact us about setting up a presentation. Ron & Martha Hardman did just that, hosting a Capon event at their WindsorMeade Retirement community in Williamsburg, VA. The next trip is up to you! Call or email us with your suggestions!
