We recently came across an article about Capon that laid out the top reasons one should vacation at Capon…and while the brochure is from 1887, the reasons still stand true:

History: Capon Springs, or as it was once called it “Kakapon” meaning “medicine water,” has been a relaxing mountain getaway since 1851.  After a fire destroyed the Grand Mountain House at Capon Springs in 1911, this 19th century resort lay quiet until it was resurrected by Lou and Virginia Austin in 1932.  The spirits of founders Lou and Virginia Austin provide a safe haven of peace and rest, which continues into the fourth generation of Austin families.  And now after 84 successive and successful seasons, Capon Springs is a destination for those near and far for summer vacations.
4. Capon Water:  Oh the Capon Springs water…it’s divine, right?  The water of Capon Springs is alkaline lithia which is pleasant to the taste, light and sparkling.  It belongs to the alkaloid carbonates, and its properties are alternative, tonic and diuretic.  The Capon Springs are known to taste wonderful and have healing powers by Capon guests as well as some of the most noted physicians in the U.S.A.
5. The Food & People: Capon Springs has been known for as long as we can remember for the food and people.  Have you eaten here?  The food is to die for.  It’s literally hard to pick your favorite food or meal…and you will never go hungry at Capon!  The Capon proprietors (a.k.a. the family) and their staff make Capon Spring not only one of the best vacation spots around…but somewhere that you feel at home!
