Step 3 of 4:

Understand the Magic

What truly makes Capon Springs different from other resorts are all the “extras” that you just won’t find anywhere else. Operated by multiple generations of the same family, you are welcomed into a warm and caring atmosphere where everything is based on the honor system.   The set-menu and meal times mean all you have to do is show up when the bell rings!

When was the last time you and your family had an opportunity to completely “unplug” and spend quality time together?  Now imagine how great it would be that as your Capon experience draws to a close, you actually feel completely relaxed, restored, and reenergized- and already dreaming about your return!

NOTE: 2024 Opening Day is Thursday May 2nd! Current May/June Openings

We are excited to share that we have welcomed a new Reservations Manager, Beth Kinghorn, as well as a new Food and Beverage Manager, Mark Nicholson, to the Capon family!

Here’s a little bit about Beth in her own words:

“I grew up in the Southern Adirondacks of the New York State, but came south to the Richmond, VA area to go to college and eventually made Virginia my home. I have two grown sons and two beautiful daughters-in-law, now living at opposite sides of the county – Los Angeles and Boston! After earning a Master’s Degree in Christian Education I worked for a number of years as a Director of Christian Education before becoming a stay-at-home mom while my children were growing up (my favorite job so far!). Fast forward many years… most recently I was a small business owner of a professional organizing business. I am drawn to Capon Springs because it embodies a number of my favorite things – hospitality, a beautiful natural setting, and meaningful traditions that have been passed down for generations.  I am motivated by my faith, my family, and being in nature (especially the mountains!).  I look forward to discovering my favorite spot at Capon Springs!

Fun facts about me:

-I am a hopelessly addicted amateur photographer – I simply can’t resist trying to create the perfect shot of any beautiful or interesting scene. In a very short time I will have hundreds of photos of Capon Springs stored on my phone!

-I have been a writer since I could hold a pencil, writing my first poem (about colors) at age 8. I have a published essay and I self-published a book on step-by-step organizing.

-I actually really do love to organize!”

If you haven’t already “met” Beth on the phone or through email before your stay, make sure to stop by the office when you are here to introduce yourself and say “hi”!

Here’s a little bit about Mark in his own words:

“I grew up and went to school here in Hampshire County. I lived here until recently moving with my wife and children to Toms Brook, Virginia. My dad owned a restaurant when I was young and that’s where my love for food began. After doing a variety of jobs over the years I decided to start a career in the food and beverage industry. Most recently I was the food and beverage manager at an assisted living facility, after having been a sous chef at James Madison University. I’m looking forward to working with the staff and exploring the area in and around Capon Springs. The beauty and secluded nature is definitely an attraction for me. I have a daughter and son. Lillian and Sidney. I love to hunt and fish. My family and I love to go camping.”

And since the Food and Beverage Manager is a new title at Capon, here’s more information about the position:

The Food and Beverage Manager will be responsible for overseeing the operation of all the food service departments (cooking kitchen, bakeshop, back kitchen and evening shift). Mark will be tasked with ensuring traditional Capon menus and recipes are consistently maintained and the quality of food served to our guests is an expression of our tradition of scratch preparation. Mark will handle all the ordering of food products, sourcing fresh local produce whenever possible. Mark will be responsible for improving special diet offerings and efficiency of operations in the kitchen as well as ensuring the temperature and quality of food is top notch. Mark will interact frequently with guests and maintain a floor presence during meals to help ensure that food quality expectations are being met.

We are thrilled to have Beth and Mark on the Capon team and look forward to all our guests getting to know them!
