Winter projects (President’s Cottage?!), May reservations and events

Dear Capon Guests,

After “Springing Forward” into warmer weather, we sure are ready to turn the corner from the cold, cold winter.  We can’t believe next Monday, March 16, we will start our regular housecleaning when we scrub the place top to bottom to get everything ready for you.

The exit surveys continue to provide helpful feedback on specific room needs, as well as general facility updates. Our maintenance crews have been busy attending to these repairs and upgrades, as well as paying special attention to some of the more substantial water lines. The complete renovation of a couple of the bathrooms in the lower pavilion provided a view into history as it provided access to the original baths below the floor.  In addition, a significant kitchen renovation will allow for increased capacity and improved efficiency to continue to prepare the meals you look forward to year after year.

Outside contractors have been especially helpful in working towards the completion of President’s Cottage! (See photo below). This multi-year project, which has been on hold for several years, is expected to be completed in time for the first July week, which starts June 28.  The result will be 4 large rooms that can be reserved for families of 4 or 5. While the summer and fall 3-night holiday weekends have already been planned for, if you have a large family, you can put in your request for one of these new rooms for September and October.  We are working on a fun and creative way to provide chances to try out these new “old” digs.

Last season, you may have noticed some defoliation and decline in tree health surrounding the grounds due to damage from the invasive gypsy moth.  Following consultation with our forester, a timber cut occurred to manage the damage and future health of our land.

With all those projects and cleaning around the corner, we will be all set for you to join us for our opening weekend, April 30 to May 3.  Except for an exclusive use wedding May 8-10, weekend space in May and early June can still be reserved.  For weeknight bookings, refer to our calendar to know which dates in May we are closed.
